Making of “Vegan Cauliflower Buffalo Wings”

Take a look behind the scenes at our food film video production: “Vegan Cauliflower Buffalo Wings”. In this making-of you can see how, we put together a stop motion animation depicting a small cauliflower figure, enjoying its day at the beach. The whole production took about two days of shooting. However, we are quite happy with the outcome.

On our quest for the “new look” in food photography/videography we took another step forward…hopefully:). This time we tried to include a cute character and build a little story around it. Which with recipe videos actually sounds easier than it is. Nevertheless, with this recipe of “Vegan Cauliflower Buffalo Wings” it worked quite well actually as you can see in this “making of”. It turned out that cauliflower is not only delicious but also a very good ingredient when it comes to building cute “minion-style” characters. Add a couple of cool dark sunglasses and colorful parasols – and the beach party can start!

Setting up the first scene was probably the easiest part of the whole video. However, the trees made out of cauliflower were not as stable as we would have wished…

After that we had to get rid of another problem: the shadow of the swing, which by the way is made out of ice popsicles :) We had to camouflage it by adding some fake leaves above.

And off we go!

Finally shooting the fall into the water was no problem at all. However, the scene under the water had to be shot as slow-motion video instead of frame by frame stop motion animation.

After shooting the intro, our main character is being deconstructed and getting ready for the next scene…

… the next set is being prepared…

Meanwhile, Ellen is making the sunglasses…

…and here the rest of the party folks waiting to get crispy and delicious in the sun…

At last, the whole party is ready to shoot the final scene :)
